1. Kellogg’s </3 Nyan Cat

If you’re anyone who’s anyone on the internet, you would have heard of the delicious rainbow pop tart space kitty meme aka Nyan Cat. Earlier this year I’ve wasted a lot of my precious time researching it and trying to understand the forces behind this, but I’ll admit, even I kindda like this meme and wouldn’t mind owning a stuffed Nyan Cat. It’s got all the right ingredients: rainbow, animated 8-bit, space, pop tart, and a kitten! Who could resist it?

I know I’m slow to write about this, but it’s been bothering me for awhile that Kellogg’s missing a huge opportunity here to take advantage of it. Memes can be extremely powerful dynamics no matter how stupid they look. They must be capturing something right about the collective psyche that made them spread like wildfire. Nyan Cat was first introduced onto the internet on April 2, 2011, and the original video reached over 35 million people. It’s been 5 months, and I am STILL seeing ALOT of Nyan Catness everywhere, including spinoff variations and artworks by passionate meme lovers worldwide. It has also been seen briefly on Sprint’s Nexus 4G “Cats” commercial.

But what has Kellogg’s done to leverage this meme? Nada. In my opinion, if Kellogg’s Pop Tart would embrace this and be inspired by it, they could unlock unexpected audience and be more relevant to kids (and cats) these days. Maybe work with the original illustrator and launch a limited edition Nyan Cat pop tart? Space rainbow pop tart? A box of some spacey and some rainbows and some kitty pop tarts so people can create their own versions of Nyan Cat? The opportunities are endless here!

(This is not a Kellogg’s product, but wouldn’t it be so fun if this is all spacey and pink and Nyaney?)

I would soo buy a limited edition rainbow space kitten poptart.

  2. Anonymous asked: what's your favorite brand?

I have many favorite brands for many occasions. As anthropologist Grant McCracken say, we have many selves, and one “favorite” brand would not satisfy all of our many selves. Ie, when I need a mood lift, I might think about classic Disney animated movies for a booster. If I want to create things and get things done, I would choose Apple. If I want to feel sporty (which is rare), I might want to choose Adidas, but if I want to be girly and cute, Urban Outffiters? :)

    What are your brands?

  3. Hello, everyone! I’ve never thought this day would come; I’m officially contributing to the blogosphere! Welcome to my world of brands and people (where I’ll be trying to establish a voice in the branding world). I do encourage you all to leave some love and comments, and help me get the brandversation ball rollin’.

To start off…does anyone know that Coca-Cola has a clothing line? Apparently, only in Brazil, this clothing line has been going on for 3 years, and I read somewhere that Pepsi is following suit. The youtube video above is their 2012 Summer collection. Aside from the iconic Coca-Cola bottle shape on the runway (which is pretty awesome), does anyone see the Coca-Cola brand in this line? Not me. I don’t really get it. I must say though, that some of the stuff are actually cute, but, man, would I be embarrassed to say I get my clothes from Coca-Cola. Other than the use of some red color, I don’t see much of the Coca-Cola essence in this line. What’s the point of this brand extension other adding brand confusion? Is it just me that thinks this is totally off-brand? Would you wear your favorite beverage?
